WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Delaware Gov. Jack Markell and First Lady Carla Markell will make their ballet debut in the Wilmington Ballet Academy's version of "The Nutcracker" next month.

The News Journal of Wilmington reports that the First Family will help celebrate the academy's 50th performance of "The Nutcracker." They will appear in the 2 p.m. show on Dec. 3 at the Playhouse in downtown Wilmington.

Gov. Markell will play the town mayor and the First Lady will play his wife during a party scene at the beginning of the performance. The First Family will then dance along with other party guests in a later scene.

The governor calls the academy an essential part of the arts community.

In 2013, the First Family also starred in a Delaware Theatre Company fundraiser.
