Delaware Leads Nation in Lyme Disease Incidents

creative commons

Delaware leads the nation in the number of confirmed cases of Lyme coming in at 84 for every 100-thousand residents.

Last year there were 669 confirmed cases which was a drop of around 200 from 2011.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that the Centers for Disease Control said last week that recent studies point to a much higher number of incidents of Lyme disease than is official recognized.

The CDC said that the true number may be 10 times that.

Treatment for the disease is a course of antibiotics but there is a significant debate about the symptoms that do not disappear after standard treatments and how they should be treated.
