Delaware Health Officials On Planned Parenthood Allegations

Delaware public health officials says that they have no evidence that Planned Parenthood of Delaware’s Wilmington clinic withheld positive test results for sexually transmitted diseases from patients.

That was the claim made by Melody Meanor a former manager at the clinic during a legislative hearing yesterday.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that Jill Fredel, a spokeswoman for the Division of Public Health, says her agency does some of the testing for Planned Parenthood.

And she said that last year 126 clients tested positive for STD’s and all got the recommended antibiotic treatment.

The paper reports that Meanor’s allegation was related to a different time period in which she claims 200 tests came back as positive for chlamydia and/or gonorrhea between November 2011 and May of 2012.

Planned Parenthood of Delaware CEO Ruth Lytle-Barnaby called the charges made at the hearing “unfounded”.

While declining to answer questions from the paper she said it is true that some standards were not met and that changes have been made including the hiring and training of new staff.

She also said another audit of patient records would be done.
