DOVER, Del. (AP) - Gov. Jack Markell is leading a trade mission to Germany in hopes of drumming up business for Delaware.

Officials say a primary goal of the trip, which starts Tuesday, is to strengthen ties with small- and medium-sized businesses in Bavaria, and that Markell will meet with business and government leaders in Munich and Berlin.

The visit follows the launch of a state initiative this year focused on helping Delaware companies increase exports, building on Delaware's global leadership in corporate governance, and promoting the state as an expansion location for foreign companies.

Germany is one of four international markets identified as part of the initiative.

Official expect  the trip to cost less than $50,000 and say it is the first trade mission Markell has led since visiting Israel two years ago.
