DOVER, Del. (AP) - A state House committee is considering a bill that would prevent high-level government officials in Delaware from immediately becoming lobbyists after leaving their state posts.
A Republican-sponsored bill to be discussed Wednesday in the House Administration Committee prohibits state agency heads, cabinet officials and members of the governor's executive staff from lobbying for two years after leaving state government.
Violation of the prohibition would be a misdemeanor.
Meanwhile, House Democrats have proposed legislation to strengthen oversight of lobbyists.
One bill would establish an annual registration fee for paid lobbyists in order to help fund state oversight of lobbyists. Another measure imposes late fees if a lobbyist's quarterly expense reports aren't filed on time with the Public Integrity Commission.
