Chincoteague residents heard from those vying for three of the six seats on the town council at a forum this week.

And there were lots of questions for the two incumbents Ben Ellis and Ellen Richardson as well as three challengers Alex Tucker, Matthew Reed and Harry Thornton.

Nearly topping the agenda for several candidates was widening the inlet and the impact on the southern part of Chincoteague.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that incumbent Ellis said the resulting flooding would be high on his list.

Ellis also said the needs of the sewer system needed to be addressed.

Meanwhile, incumbent Richardson who has lived on Chincoteague for 60 years said that she would work to preserve the history of the area citing her ability to work with organizations.

Challenger Thornton a Chincoteague native volunteer fireman said he wanted to deal with the issues of growth.

Reed who is a construction contractor told the audience that this would give him important business experience in handling the needs of the community.
