WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - A group is challenging state regulations that ban firearms in state forests and state parks unless they are being used for hunting.
The Salisbury Daily Times reports two sport shooting groups along with some individuals have filed a lawsuit in Chancery Court, challenging those regulations.
Thomas Shellenberger, a spokesman for Delaware State Sportsmen's Association, one of the plaintiffs, says the restriction amounts to a "blanket prohibition." The lawsuit says the state regulations forbid the lawful possession of firearms and are inconsistent with the state constitution.
The Bridgeville Rifle & Pistol Club and several individuals are also part of the lawsuit, which was filed by attorney Francis G.X. Pileggi.
Deputy Environmental Secretary Kara Coats says the department intends to file a motion asking the court to dismiss the lawsuit.
