LEWES, Del. (AP) - Delaware officials say a popular fishing pier in Lewes is projected to reopen next winter.
The Salisbury Daily Times reports that the Department of Natural Resources plans to start repairs to the Cape Henlopen Fishing Pier in summer or fall.
Officials ordered the World War II-era pier closed in October when an inspection found it was in immediate need of repairs.
Environmental Program Administrator Matthew Chesser says that the department has worked with an engineering firm since December on plans to repair 125 pilings. He says the repairs will add a few years of life to the pier while decisions are made about a replacement.
Chesser says design and permitting are expected to be complete by late spring and construction is scheduled to start in late summer or early fall.
