official photos

Vice President Joe Biden told a service this weekend for two firefighters who lost their lives in a row house blaze that he his family knew the pain of such a loss.

During an appearance for Captain Christopher Leach and Lt. Jerry Fickes he told hundreds of firefighters in attendance he hoped the fact that so many people appreciated their service would ease their suffering.

Biden lost his wife and daughter in a car accident just after winning his first Senate bid.

Meanwhile, the Wilmington News Journal reports that thousands of Delawareans attended the service.

The two were killed more than a week ago when the floor collapsed in the row house trapping them in the basement.

27 year old Beatriz Fana-Ruiz has been charged with setting the fire as well as murder for the two deaths.

Two other firefighters are still in the hospital.

Leach was 41 and Rickes was 51.
