Berlin Residents Ask For Safety Measures at Route 113 Intersection

marylandcasa.org

After a 16 year old Tymeir Dennis was killed last Friday night when he and his brother, Tyheim Bowen, were struck by a state trooper while crossing Route 113 in Berlin local residents say they want some changes to the intersection.

Patricia Dufendach told the town council that she had been asking officials for years to make crossing Route 113 at the intersection of Bay Street safer.

On one side there are apartments and homes while nearly all of the town’s shops are across Route 113 in the western part of the town.

Dufendach suggested that the speed limit on Route 113 through Berlin should be reduced.

In addition, she said, a pedestrian crosswalk with a countdown clock and signage should be installed.

She said she would also like to form a community committee to discuss ways to improve the situation.

Meanwhile, Berlin Chief Arnold Downing said that in the wake of last week’s tragedy state Highway Administration officials were already looking at how to improve the intersection.
