BEAR, Del. (AP) - Small businesses in Bear are bracing for a 17-day closure of a section of U.S. Route 40 while a rail crossing is replaced.
TheNews Journal reports that businesses are posting signs and ads to alert customers that they will be open while Pulaski Highway traffic is detoured to Interstate 95. To reduce the burden on area roads, eastbound traffic will be directed one way and westbound traffic another.
The four-lane highway that sees an average of 35,000 vehicles daily is scheduled to close Friday evening and reopen on Aug. 26.
The state Department of Transportation says motorists will be able to access all the businesses on either side of the crossing during the closure.
Crews began repairs Monday on a drainage system connected to the crossing.
