Baltimore Delegate Replaces Conway on Appropriations Committee

official photo

With the defeat of Democratic Delegate Norm Conway by Republican Carl Anderton House Spaker Michael Busch has named Delegate Maggie McIntosh to replace him as chair of the Appropriations Committee.

Conway had been chair of the committee since 2003 and had been instrumental in bringing state dollars to the Eastern Shore.

McIntosh hails from Baltimore City and has been a member of the House of Delegates since 1987.

Speaker Busch called McIntosh one of the most well respected leaders in Annapolis and the right person to take on the budget issues.

Other Appointments

Busch says Montgomery County Del. Kumar Barve will chair a newly designated Environment and Transportation Committee.

The speaker says Montgomery County Del. Anne Kaiser will take Barve's place as the House majority leader. And Del. Adrienne Jones, a Baltimore County Democrat, will oversee state higher education policy.

State Senator Elect Addie Eckardt (R)

Democrats lost seven House seats in the election. There will be 91 Democrats and 50 Republicans in the House when the Legislature convenes in January.

Eastern Shore Republicans

Republican Eastern Shore Delegate Addie Eckardt now moves on to serve in the state senate after beating incumbent Rich Colburn in the GOP primary.

Eckardt along with Delegate Jeannie Haddaway and her loss in primaries as a running mate to David Craig in the Republican primary will be replaced by Johnny Mautz and Christopher Adams.
