Attorney General Unhappy With Use of Delaware Settlement Money

official photo

There was disappointment by Delaware Attorney General Matt Denn after lawmakers decided to use some of the $61 million from a financial settlement to fill the state’s budget shortfall.

Denn wanted the money to go for such things as police foot patrols in Wilmington and helping families who are facing foreclosure.

The Wilmington New Journal reports that Denn also wanted the money to go toward subsidizing low-income schools and housing programs.

But Senator Harris McDowell, chair of the Joint Finance Committee (D-Wilmington) told the paper that when it was all said and done the lawmakers had to tap into the settlement money more than they would have liked.

$15 million went to Delaware’s capital budget while another $5 million was slated for the operating budget.

In addition, $5 million was also earmarked for transportation operational costs.
