Are There Too Many Democrats Running in Delaware Primaries?

Delaware Democratic Party seal

Democratic candidates running for office in Delaware may be getting a signal to reconsider their chances in the September primary.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that a letter has been sent out by state Democratic Party urging all of their candidates running for state and local office to give “a second and third thought” to their candidacy.

The state chairman John Daniello told the paper that the letter was not meant to single out anyone candidate but was sent out to all 63 candidates vying for office in the primary.

Paul Gallagher, one of three Democrats running for state Insurance Commissioner, told the News Journal he believes that the Democratic Party wants to keep outsiders from running for office.

There are several primaries where more than three candidates are vying for the same office.

For example, there are eight taking a shot at the office of Mayor in Wilmington.
