Anne Arundel County Gets News Executive

biopic

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - The Anne Arundel County Council has chosen Laura Neuman to be the new county executive.

The council selected her from 16 candidates on Thursday night to replace John Leopold. He resigned this month after a judge found him guilty of two counts of misconduct in office.

The Republican Neuman will serve about 22 months left on the term. Neuman lives in Anne Arundel County and is chief executive officer of Howard County's Economic Development Authority.

She was chosen instead of several candidates with much higher profiles. They included former first lady Kendel Ehrlich, ex-Gov. Robert Ehrlich's wife, and John Hammond, the acting county executive. Anne Arundel County Delegate Steve Schuh also was in the running.
