Abduction of Cal Ripken's Mother: Possibly Premeditated

Cal Ripken Junior told reporters today that the kidnapping of his mother may have been premeditated.

The Orioles legend said that the suspect left materials in his mother’s garage that indicate he had planned the kidnapping.

When asked if he thought his family was targeted Ripken said it was quite possible the kidnapping was a random act.

The former baseball player paused during his meeting with the press to regain his composure as he recalled learning of the kidnapping about 12 hours after she was taken.

He said that his mother was treated civilly during her abduction.

Police say the man is believed to be white male, 5-10, 180 pounds, in his mid-30’s to mid-40’s with short brown hair and glasses.

74-year old Violet Ripken was abducted at gunpoint on July 24th and was bound in her 1998 Lincoln Town Car.

She was driven around Central Maryland for 24 hours before being returned not far from her home uninjured.
