SMYRNA, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police say a pedestrian was killed on Korean War Veterans Memorial Highway in Smyrna.

The agency said in a news release that the crash happened about 12:30 p.m. Monday. Troopers say 66-year-old James Leggett of Yeadon, Pennsylvania, was driving a tractor and flatbed trailer.

Police say the tractor trailer drifted onto the right shoulder and hit a 64-year-old man who had just gotten out of a truck's driver's side. Authorities say the man landed in the southbound lane.

SMYRNA, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police say a tractor trailer overturned during a crash, spilling chickens onto state Route 1 in Smyrna.

Police said in a statement that two tractor trailers collided early Wednesday in southbound lanes and one overturned. Police say the drivers were not injured, but the chicken trailer spilled its load of chickens.

The roadway was blocked for hours into the morning rush as crews cleared away the overturned trailer and chickens.

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Authorities in Delaware say a tractor trailer carrying 40,000 pounds of unstamped pennies overturned on northbound Interstate 95, spilling its load along the highway.
Delaware State Police Master Cpl. Jeffrey Hale said by telephone that the tractor trailer overturned and caught fire early Thursday at the split for eastbound Interstate 295, but the driver escaped with minor injuries. He says its load of unstamped pennies spilled onto the roadway.

The driver of a truck that was pinned under a tractor trailer on Route 50 near Racetrack  Road has been identified as 69 year old Melvin Martin of Pittsville.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that police say he died at the scene.

The paper reports that the driver of the tractor trailer was identified as 58 year old Russell Morrison who was not injured.  

State police say Martin was moving east bound on Route 50 at around 8 a.m. when he moved into the left side of the road hitting a ditch and then striking the truck.

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) - Maryland State Police say a tractor trailer carrying suits used for radioactive cleanup overturned on Interstate 81 in western Maryland.

It happened about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday on I-81 southbound in Hagerstown, troopers said in a news release. The truck was carrying two sealed shipping containers that held the suits. Police say the cargo was considered safe by hazardous material crews and posed no threat to people or property. The containers will be re-evaluated for soundness before being removed from the scene, troopers said.

28-year old Holly Boyce from Greenwood died in a car crash on U.S. Route 13 in Seaford yesterday afternoon.

Police say she rear ended a tractor trailer around noon just south of Cannon Road.

Police say that a 2010 Freight Liner Cascadia was pulling an enclosed trailer going south on Route 13.

When it began to turn onto Cannon Road Boyce did not realize it was slowing down and slammed her 2007 Buick Lucerne into the back of the trailer.

Boyce was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash closed route 13 for around three and a half hours.

QUEEN ANNE, Md. (AP) - Two tractor-trailers collided head-on on Maryland's Eastern Shore, killing three people.

Maryland State Police say a tractor-trailer driven by 38-year-old Brian Hutcheson of Ramer, Tennessee, was traveling on Maryland Route 404 in Queen Anne Tuesday morning when it crossed the center line.

Troopers said the rig side-swiped a second tractor-trailer operated by 52-year-old Terry Coward of Culpepper, Virginia, before colliding head-on with a third semi.

Power has been restored to some 14-hundred customers of Delaware Electric Cooperative in Rehoboth Beach after two utility power collapsed.

It occurred around 7:40 p.m. last night on Old Landing Road.

The Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Department said a tractor and it trailer became disconnected hitting two poles and knocking them down.

There were no injuries and both poles were replaced.

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police say two lanes have reopened on southbound Interstate 95 after a crash involving a tractor trailer closed the highway for several hours.

Police say the tractor trailer overturned on I-95 at Delaware Route 141 just after 4 a.m. on Friday.

State troopers closed southbound I-95 until just before 9 a.m. Traffic was being diverted onto Route 141. Police say the closure caused long delays and urged motorists to avoid the area.


A tractor-trailer has gone over the side of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel into the water this morning after hitting a light pole.

The Virginia Pilot is reporting that the Virginia Beach Fire Department Battalion said the truck went over at the 15 mile marker.

The paper says that the U.S. Coast Guard says navy divers have located one person in the water who was unresponsive.

The Navy has a helicopter at the scene along with the divers.
