There is a battle brewing over how charter schools are audited in Delaware.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that state Representative Kim Williams (D-Wilmington) would like the state auditor to choose and oversee the companies that do the financial reports.

But state Senator Dave Sokola (D-Wilmington) wants a measure that would tighten the current practice of allowing the charter schools to work out their individual contracts with the auditing companies.

The measures come on the heels of a number of scandals that have hit the charter schools in the First State.

Delaware Treasurer Chip Flowers may have bowed out of his re-election bid this year but he still has been forced to confront charge by his former.

Erika Benner says that Flowers attended a New England Patriots game on the taxpayer’s dime with her and used a Boston limo service for transportation.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that Flowers has previously denied attending the game with Benner.

But during his announcement that he was withdrawing from the race on Friday, he admitted that he had been at the sporting event.

Delaware State Treasurer Chip Flowers is coming under attack from Delaware Republicans, who called his office “out of control.”

Senate Minority Leader Gary Simpson and Minority Whip Greg Lavelle said they were reacting to a story in the Wilmington News Journal that quoted Flowers as saying that financial records in his office are in disarray or missing.

Delaware State Treasurer Chip Flowers says he stayed on a few days after an Alaskan conference last year to meet with bankers.

But The Wilmington News Journal reports that he posted a picture on his Facebook page showing him at the time to be visiting a state park more than 100 miles away from Anchorage where his staff says he was doing research after spending the previous two days holding business meetings.
