WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Delaware's congressional delegation is on a tour for a federal grant aimed at getting more minority students to take up careers in science and technology.

Sens. Chris Coons and Tom Carper and congressman John Carney planned to join officials from Delaware Technical Community College on Tuesday to discuss the grant.

The Department of Health and Human Services has awarded a five-year grant totaling $2.4 million to DelTech and its partners, Nemours Health and Prevention Services and the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University.

BALTIMORE (AP) - Maryland lawmakers are touting the importance of STEM education in Baltimore.

U.S. Senator Ben Cardin and Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake are set to speak at a forum on Monday to highlight the importance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz is also set to speak at the Baltimore forum, which is billed as a two-hour interactive talk with a focus how to help gear students toward modern-day jobs.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia is sharing more than $17.3 million from NASA to increase student and faculty engagement in science, technology, engineering and mathematics at community colleges and technical schools.

Officials say the Virginia Community College System is getting funding through the National Space Grant and Fellowship Program.

Thirty-five awards were granted after a solicitation to members of the national Space Grant Consortia. Each award has a two-year performance period and a maximum value of $500,000.

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - State officials are joining with the Dow chemical company and Junior Achievement to strengthen science, technology, engineering and math instruction in Delaware's middle schools.

Gov. Jack Markell planned to join members of Delaware's STEM Council on Tuesday to announce a partnership with businesses to give middle school students more exposure to learning in the four STEM fields.

The STEM Council was established as part of Delaware's Race to the Top education reform effort.
