There was a blanket of snow on the ground as Delmarvans got up to greet President’s Day.

The area was expected to be hit with 2-t0-4 inches of snow.

There’s a snow emergency in place for Worcester and Somerset Counties.

All vehicles have to have either snow chains or snow tires.

There’s also a ban on all parking for the snow emergency routes.

A winter weather advisory is still in effect for Sussex County through 4 p.m. this afternoon.

The region expects the snow to turn to rain later on in the day.

The snow may be melting from the weekend but the National Weather Service says to expect the snow to return by Thursday night.

The outlook calls for hazardous weather conditions in Wicomico, Worcester and Somerset counties and the Eastern Shore of Virginia from Thursday through Saturday.

Sussex County is also expected to be under hazardous weather conditions northward.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that Friday afternoon is expected to turn into a mix of snow and rain.

For the eleventh time the Rebecca T. Ruark came in first during the 53rd annual Skipjack Race yesterday.

Captain Wade Murphy told the Salisbury Daily Times that it was a good luck day.

He said the wind was perfect and he picked up the $1-thousand prize.  

The Ida Mae captained by John Price came in second pulling in $500 in prize money.

The Somerset came in third picking up the $500 prize.

Last year Murphy said there was some rough water.

And The Kathryn that year owned by Capt. Stoney Whitelock was damaged and did not race this year.

Worcester County students did well on the Maryland School Assessment tests scoring above state averages in reading and math.

Jerry Wilson superintendent of the County school system said that the students in 2012 did better than last year.

In Wicomico County school system officials said there were some successes for their students.

They improved in their proficiency in math for grades five, six and eight.

But the percentage of students scoring proficient in reading declined in every grade except fourth.


            Extreme drought conditions have led Lower Shore Counties to impose burn bans.

            Wicomico County Executive Rick Pollitt says he expects to seek an indefinite extension of the seven day ban already in place.

            Meanwhile, Somerset, Worcester and Dorchester Counties have also imposed burn bans.

            Worcester County Fire Marshall Jeff McMahon…said that the ban should do a lot to reduce the number of out-of-control outside fires.


     ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (AP) - A new report finds that Howard County is the healthiest place to live in Maryland, while Baltimore city is ranked as the worst.

     The report was released Tuesday by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute. It ranks counties in each state by several health factors, as well as other areas such as education, access to health care and unemployment.


       PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (AP) - State police have identified a man shot and killed by troopers after a chase on the lower Eastern Shore.

     Police say 49-year-old Terry Diaz of Princess Anne was shot in the head after the chase in Somerset County Wednesday night. He died at the scene.

     Police haven't said why the troopers shot Diaz. Diaz's sport-utility vehicle was stuck in the mud in a grass median at the time, and he was inside the car. Police say the troopers gave Diaz verbal commands before they opened fire.
