The funeral for Charles “CJ” Abbot will be held at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center in Salisbury this Sunday.

Friends will be able to visit the Civic Center from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday.

Abbot was killed when he tried to intervene when an argument erupted between Kristin Loetz and her ex-boyfriend Ryan Shallue near the Salisbury University campus on Tuesday evening.

Shallue also wounded Loetz before apparently taking his own life.

GreatGrow Maryland is teaming up with Salisbury University to test whether its soil additive can increase crop yields while reducing nutrients that pollute the Chesapeake Bay.

It has taken ten years to fine tune the ingredients and the company only has been able to supply limited quantities to growers.

The company says its mixture of microbes and other naturally occurring materials can boost yields by as much as 50 percent.

Peninsula Regional Medical Center has joined Salisbury University and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore to bring a medical school to the Delmarva peninsula.

PRMC CEO and President Dr. Peggy Naleppa said that there was a shortage of physicians on the Shore.

WBOC reports that the plan would allow patients to get healthcare from physicians trained here rather than going to Baltimore.

Salisbury University President Janet Dudley-Eshbach called the partnership a good fit.

In the fall of next year Salisbury University students studying computer science, mathematics or information systems could be going to Estonia to finish their bachelor’s degree and complete a master’s degree.

Dr. Diane Allen, provost and senior vice president of academic affairs, says she has not heard President Janet Dudley Eshbach say she is terminating funding for Delmarva Public Radio.

Dr. Allen says that the Salisbury University Foundation is weighing options for the stations and no decision has been made.

But in a statement released by the media relations department she added that the station cannot expect the University to “indefinitely provide an unlimited subsidy.”

The statement notes that Universities are facing difficult choices in allocating resources.
