Bad weather has delayed the widening of Route 26.

The project was to be completed by June 24th of next year.

Yesterday Delaware Department of Transportation advisory group awarded an additional 43 days pushing the completion date back to September 7th of next year.

WBOC reports that Project Manager Mike Delp from the construction firm said that the extensions were to be expected since none had been included in the contract.

Governor Martin O’Malley has announced $49 million in new funding to widen a 9 mile stretch of Route 113.

And state officials say they will honor the late Maryland Delegate Bennett Bozman by dedicating a 14 mile portion of the highway to him that runs from Berlin to Snow Hill.

At a dedication ceremony yesterday Bozman’s widow Elizabeth said that her late husband would be proud.

Bozman served as a Delegate from Wicomico and Worcester counties from 1991 to 2006 when he died.

Construction is set to begin early next year.

BEAR, Del. (AP) - Delaware transportation officials are holding a public workshop on a plan to widen Route 1 from north of Route 273 to the Roth Bridge over the Chesapeake and Delaware canal.

Tuesday evening's workshop at Wilbur Elementary School in Bear involves the presentation of a noise study of the road project.

The project calls for adding a travel lane in each direction to Delaware's major north-south artery, widening existing bridges to accommodate the new travel lanes, and reconfiguring supporting interchanges.

BEAR, Del. (AP) - A project to widen a 3.5-mile stretch of road in Bear where a number of accidents have occurred is now in the planning stages.

The News Journal of Wilmington, Del. reports that the construction project on Wrangle Hill Road is not scheduled to begin until 2015 or 2016 and that the project will cost $18 million. Residents and businesses hope the changes will reduce congestion and rush-hour backups as well as address safety issues.
