REHOBOTH, Del. (AP) - Delaware's environmental secretary has ordered the closing of a shellfish harvest area in Rehoboth Bay near the city of Rehoboth's wastewater treatment plant.

Officials said this week's closure is based on a U.S. Food and Drug Administration assessment of theoretical wastewater discharges, and not on water quality changes in the area.

The owner of three mobile home communities is being sued by the Delaware Attorney General’s office.

The 17 page lawsuit charges that Hometown America Communities pressured tenants into giving up their rights.

The residents of the communities in Kent and Sussex counties received rent increase notices but were offered a discount if they waived their right to a legal challenge.

Attorney General Matt Denn called the practice – reprehensible.

The communities included Barclay Farms in Camden, Angola Beach Estates in Lewes and Rehoboth Bay in Rehoboth.


LEWES, Del. (AP) - The Cape Water Taxi has returned to the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal for a second season.

Service began Friday with a weekend schedule until seven-day service begins June 14.

A second vessel, The Discovery, 72-passenger boat with two restrooms joins the Mummichog, the 26-seat boat that operated last year. Owner David Green tells The Daily Times of Salisbury that the new boat will make the service's schedule more flexible when it debuts next month.


             Dumping treated-wastewater from Rehoboth Beach into the ocean is the safest way to dispose of it.

            That’s the conclusion of a draft environmental study by GHD Inc that will be used by Delaware’s Water Pollution Control Revolving Fund to build the proposed outfall.

            A public hearing has been set for April 10th at Rehoboth’s Convention Hall.
