Governor Signs Health Ins. Backup Law (Update)

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - A measure to help people get health insurance retroactive to Jan. 1, if problems with a state website kept them from doing so will be taking effect.

Gov. Martin O'Malley signed emergency legislation on Thursday in Annapolis to put it into effect immediately.

The measure will enable people who couldn't get through to enroll in Maryland health exchange insurance to be insured by the Maryland Health Insurance Plan. The program is a separate safety net plan that has served as a high-risk pool for state residents without insurance.

MD Stop Gap Health Insurance Plan Set for Final Vote

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - A final vote is near on a measure to help people who could not enroll in a private health plan on Maryland's health exchange website due to computer problems last year.

The Senate, which already approved a version of the bill, could take up final passage as soon as Wednesday on the bill that has some changes made by the House of Delegates.

MD House Set to Vote on Health Insurance Backup Plan

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - The Maryland House of Delegates is on track to vote for a measure to provide health insurance to people who tried to enroll on the state's online health exchange but couldn't get through due to computer problems.

The House is scheduled to vote on Tuesday.

The measure would enable people who can show they tried to get through the exchange for coverage Jan. 1 to enroll in a separate state insurance pool for residents without insurance.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Maryland's House of Delegates will likely vote Tuesday on a plan to help residents who have struggled with the state's health insurance exchange online.

The bill would let customers sign up for retroactive coverage in the Maryland Health Insurance Plan, a separate safety net plan. 

Private insurance companies in the health exchange opened similar retroactive coverage options, but a deadline to register was last week.

The Senate approved the bill Jan. 21.

MD. Lt. Gov. Outlines Health Exchange Under Obamacare

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown will be outlining the latest steps in Maryland to implement federal health care reform.

Brown is scheduled to testify Wednesday on legislation before a House panel and a Senate committee.

The measure includes an expansion of Medicaid. It also creates a dedicated funding stream for the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange from the existing premium tax on health insurers.

Campaign Launched to Get More Applications for Federal Health Insurance Program in Maryland

 

     ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Maryland Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown wants to increase the number of applications to a federally funded health insurance program run by the state.

     Brown will kick off the second anniversary of the federal Affordable Care Act on Monday with a marketing campaign designed to enhance participation in the Maryland Health Insurance Plan.

     MHIP is a state and federally funded plan for people who cannot qualify for health insurance because they have a pre-existing condition.
