ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - The Anne Arundel County Republican primary for county executive was the most expensive in county history.

The Capital reports that Laura Neuman and Steve Schuh spent $2.4 million. That's double what all seven candidates, Democrats and Republicans combined, spent in Anne Arundel's last primary for county executive in 2006.

Schuh won the June GOP primary with 54 percent of the vote. He outspent Neuman by $600,000.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - A spokesman for Republican David Craig says the Harford County executive has chosen Del. Jeannie Haddaway-Riccio as his running mate in his run for governor.

Jim Pettit, Craig's campaign spokesman, confirmed the selection in a telephone interview with The Associated Press on Thursday.

Pettit says two news conferences have been scheduled for Tuesday to announce her selection. One will be in the morning in Annapolis. The other will be in the afternoon in St. Michaels on the Eastern Shore.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Anne Arundel County Police Chief Larry Tolliver is resigning from his post after complaints that he had retaliated against officers who testified against the previous county executive.

In an email Tuesday announcing his decision to retire on May 21, Tolliver denied that it was related to the investigation into alleged retaliation against officers in the case against former County Executive John R. Leopold. Leopold, who was convicted in January of misconduct, appointed Tolliver chief in July.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - The Anne Arundel County Council has chosen Laura Neuman to be the new county executive.

The council selected her from 16 candidates on Thursday night to replace John Leopold. He resigned this month after a judge found him guilty of two counts of misconduct in office.

The Republican Neuman will serve about 22 months left on the term. Neuman lives in Anne Arundel County and is chief executive officer of Howard County's Economic Development Authority.
