Salisbury University is creating a new unit called the College of Health and Human Services.

It is meant to streamline and create more collaboration for its health programs.

Interim University Provost Karen Olmstead says, “It’s no surprise that health and social service programs are growing for the wellbeing of our citizens of our region, of our state, of our nation. And of course to our economy.”

It is combines the schools of Health Science, Nursing and Social Work.

It was an effort to spark dialogue with students in the aftermath of the white nationalist rally in Charlottesville last year.

But the “Pyramid of White Supremacy” graphic used for a diversity class at Salisbury University has sparked controversy.

It’s a one credit-course for those majoring in elementary education.

Professor Erin Stutelberg says that she didn’t want her students to see white supremacy only through the eyes of groups like the KKK.

U.S. News and World Report has put Salisbury University on its list of the Best Colleges for 2018.

There are 620 universities in the Best Regional Universities category which is divided geographically into North, South, Midwest and West.

The criteria ranges from academic reputation and graduation rates to financial resources and student selectivity.

Dr. Karen Olmstead, the university’s interim provost and vice president of academic affairs, noted that for the last two decades SU has been named one of the top regional universities by the publication.

In the fall of next year Salisbury University students studying computer science, mathematics or information systems could be going to Estonia to finish their bachelor’s degree and complete a master’s degree.

Karen Olmstead, dean of SU School of Science and Technology told the Salisbury Daily Times that Baltic nation is known as an international leader in cyber security and was hit with a large cyber attack five years ago.

The school hopes to send four to eight students under the program each year.
