Former Vice President Joe Biden has purchased a vacation home near Cape Henlopen State Park.

Biden issued a statement saying he and his wife, Jill, had always dreamed of being able to buy a home at the beach where his family can get together.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that Biden as Delaware’s longest serving senator secured the return of the federal land at Cape Henlopen.

The paper reports that the former Vice President used the advance on his upcoming book to buy the property.

Jill Biden made an appearance yesterday at the graduating ceremonies for students at Delaware Technical Community College.

A former professor at the institution the wife of the former Vice President told the students that if they can walk “on this stage” they can do anything.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that the ages of the graduates yesterday ranged from 19 to 70.

Biden told the graduates that she was an advocate for greater access to community colleges because they provided such opportunities for students.

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - A rally is planned this week to welcome Vice President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill, back to Delaware after eight years in Washington.

The "welcome home" rally is scheduled for Friday afternoon at the Chase Center in Wilmington. The Wilmington News Journal reports the Bidens are expected to attend Friday's inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump and then return to Wilmington by train.

153 Military Police website

DELAWARE CITY, Del. (AP) - Delaware's 153rd Military Police Company of the National Guard has returned early from Afghanistan to the cheers of friends and family members.

The News Journal reports thousands of people gathered Saturday in Delaware City at the Gov. Bacon Parade Field for the early homecoming. A marching band played "God Bless America," and there were 127 homemade posters - one for each member of the unit.

Jill Biden, the wife of Vice President Joe Biden, joined the homecoming event. She was also there when the troops left in January.

NEW CASTLE, Del. (AP) - A National Guard unit from Delaware is set to deploy to Afghanistan to train national security forces there.

Gov. Jack Markell and Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, were scheduled to be on hand for Thursday's send-off of the Delaware Army National Guard 153rd Military Police Company.

More than 120 members of the unit, headquartered in Delaware City, are leaving from a 12-month tour of duty in Afghanistan.
