The new flood maps for Ocean City could result in some property owners paying higher insurance premiums.

WBOC reports that Congressman Andy Harris’s office says that the hazard map will cost some of them hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency said that the new flood maps do not include private, landscape areas that are deemed secondary dunes.

It said that only the primary frontal dunes which include Army Corps of Engineers Storm Protection Project.

Thousands of property owners in Delaware are grappling with the new changes in the flood maps by the Federal Emergency Management Agency which will mean a hike in flood insurance rates.

The rate increase has been capped by lawmakers at 18 percent and in some cases at 25 percent for certain categories.

And FEMA is also offering relief to some while drawing other into new insurance requirement.

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Kent County residents and leaders are getting their first look at new flood maps and worrying about the impact on flood insurance rates.

The News Journal reports that federal officials unveiled new flood maps for Kent County on Tuesday night. It is first in the rollout of maps statewide.
