DOVER, Del. (AP) - The Delaware State Fire School has received a nearly $440,000 federal grant to add equipment for training exercises.

Media outlets report Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester D-Del. and U.S. Sen. Chris Coons D-Del. visited the school Monday to announce the Assistance to Firefighters Grant. This year's grant will provide a forcible entry training trailer, ambulance simulator, and several hazardous materials training props.


DOVER, Del. (AP) - State environmental officials say Delaware has received a $345,000 federal grant to help wetland conservation efforts.

The Environmental Protection Agency grant that will go be used by the Wetland Monitoring and Assessment Program to fund enhanced wetland conservation in Delaware through science, statewide mapping, education and outreach.

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Delaware has been awarded more than $300,000 in federal grants for projects aimed at the state's specialty crop industry.

The state Department of Agriculture made the announcement Tuesday. Delaware Ag Secretary Ed Kee says the grants are funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Specialty Crop Block Grant Program. The initiative was designed to promote crops such as fruits, vegetables, nuts and horticulture plants.

Kee says the research and educational opportunities will help growers and allied businesses in both the short and long term.

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - The U.S. Department of Justice has awarded $2 million in funds to the Wilmington Police Department and Laurel Police Department to aid in community policing.

The Wilmington News Journal that the police departments received the funds Monday.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia is set to receive $9.5 million in federal grants to help improve water and sewer infrastructure as well as housing rehabilitation and other projects.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe's office recently announced that 13 projects around the state will receive federal funds through the Community Development Block Grant program.

The projects include road projects and downtown revitalization programs.

The largest grant, of $1.4 million, is for a water supply project in the town of Pocahontas.

LEWES, Del. (AP) - State officials are celebrating a federal grant aimed at helping Delaware reduce air emissions from diesel engines.

Gov. Jack Markell will join all three members of Delaware's congressional delegation in Lewes on Monday to announce the $975,000 grant from the Environmental Protection Agency.

Officials say the Delaware River and Bay Authority will use the money to upgrade the Cape May-Lewes Ferry with low-emission marine propulsion engines in order to reduce toxic air emissions.

BALTIMORE (AP) - Vice President Joe Biden used a visit to Baltimore to talk about the need to invest in infrastructure.

The vice president highlighted a $10 million grant to the Port of Baltimore during a visit on Monday.

The grant is expected to help improve the port's productivity by widening the channel. It also will increase the port's cargo storage capacity.

Biden said the grant is just the latest example of federal investments to better enable the nation's manufacturers to get their products around the world, Vice President Joe Biden said Monday.
