More Federal Money for Maryland Communities Hit by Superstorm Sandy

EASTON, Md. (AP) - The Department of Housing and Urban Development is awarding $19 million in aid to Maryland communities hit by Superstorm Sandy.

Sen. Barbara Mikulski and Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown  announced the funding through the Community Development Block Grant program this morning in Easton.

Economic Development Panel for Crisfield


Crisfield officials are looking at creating an economic development commission that would market the town as a tourist destination and to attract new businesses.

Jay Tawes, a member of the Chamber of Commerce’s Crisfield Marketing Association, told town leaders that the town is “rapidly losing businesses.”

Tawes along with Charlotte Scot and Greg Cain said they would like to see their Association formally turned into an appointed economic development commission.

That would include a full-time paid director.

Demolition Funds for Linens of the Week Property Approved in Salisbury



The Salisbury City Council gave its approval last night to a funding proposal that will cover the remaining demolition costs of the Linens of the Week property.

The unanimous vote to okay this year’s action plan for a Community Development Block Grant came during its regular meeting but not without some fireworks.

Council Vice President Debbie Campbell told her colleagues that she still opposed the city’s ownership of the property as well as the use of the Block Grant money.
