Senator Ben Cardin Endorses Anthony Brown for Governor

BALTIMORE (AP) - U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin is endorsing Democratic Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown for governor.

Cardin announced his support for Brown and his running mate Ken Ulman on Monday in Baltimore.

The Democratic senator says Brown has worked to improve Maryland schools, reduce domestic violence and create jobs to strengthen the middle class.

Brown also has won endorsements from Gov. Martin O'Malley, U.S. Sen. Barbara Mikulski and four of Maryland's seven Democratic congressmen for their party's nomination.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Del. Heather Mizeur is scheduled to announce her running mate in her bid for governor.

Mizeur says she will make her choice public on Wednesday at an American Legion Post in Silver Spring.

Mizeur is a Montgomery County Democrat. She has represented the county in the House of Delegates since 2007.

She is running against Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown and Attorney General Doug Gansler for the Democratic nomination for governor.

TYSONS CORNER, Va. (AP) - Democrat Terry McAuliffe has been elected Virginia's next governor, defeating Republican Ken Cuccinelli after pledging to expand the state's Medicaid rolls and portraying his rival as someone who would turn back years of progress.

Turnout for Tuesday's election was low, and both candidates worked through Election Day to reach as many potential voters as possible.

COLUMBIA, Md. (AP) - Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown is scheduled to discuss domestic violence prevention as part of his campaign for governor.

Brown and his running mate, Ken Ulman, plan to announce their "Our Path to Zero" proposal to stop domestic violence and sexual assault in Maryland.

Brown and Ulman will talk about the plan at a press conference Tuesday at the Medical Pavilion at Howard County in Columbia.

Brown is seeking the Democratic nomination for governor.

Del. Cheryl Glenn and family members of domestic violence victims also are scheduled to attend.

BALTIMORE (AP) - Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown has picked up a key union endorsement in the race for governor.

Brown and his running mate, Howard County Executive Ken Ulman, were endorsed Saturday by the Maryland-DC Council of the AFL-CIO, which represents about 296,000 workers in the state.

Brown is running in the Democratic primary to succeed Gov. Martin O'Malley, who is term-limited. Also running in the heavily Democratic state are Attorney General Doug Gansler and state Del. Heather Mizeur.

SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) - Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler says he should have done more to see if there was underage drinking at teen beach party he visited.

Gansler, who is seeking the Democratic nomination for governor, spoke to reporters Thursday about stopping by the June party in Delaware. He said he needed to meet his 19-year-old son to talk to about travel plans.

A photo obtained by The Baltimore Sun and published Thursday shows Gansler amid a group of partying teens. Some of the young people are dancing and there are several red plastic cups visible.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - The Maryland State Police are criticizing Attorney General Doug Gansler for calling the commander of the executive protection section a "henchman" of Gov. Martin O'Malley and Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown.

Gansler, who is running for governor, said Tuesday on WJLA-TV that reports saying he misused his security detail to get him to events are "100 percent completely untrue."  He accused his opponent, Brown, of "running a campaign about dirty politics," and "pulling out some memo that some henchman wrote two or three years ago."

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - A spokeswoman for House Speaker Michael Busch says he will be endorsing Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown's bid to be the next governor of Maryland.

Alexandra Hughes said the speaker will announce his endorsement on Thursday in Annapolis.

Brown, a Democrat, served in the House of Delegates before Gov. Martin O'Malley chose him to be his running mate in 2005. Brown served two terms representing Prince George's County, and he rose to the position of majority whip in the chamber.

SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Barbara Mikulski is endorsing Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown to be the next governor of Maryland.

At a campaign rally Sunday in Silver Spring, Mikulski announced her support for Brown, a Democrat, and Howard County Executive Ken Ulman for lieutenant governor.

Mikulski cited her work with Brown to improve health care, reduce domestic violence and to spur job creation. In a statement released by the campaign, Mikulski says Brown is honorable, patriotic and willing to tackle tough issues.

SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) - Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler is announcing plans to officially launch his run for governor.

Gansler's campaign announced Thursday he will start a statewide tour beginning on Sept. 24 with events in Rockville, Ellicott City and Baltimore.

After that, he will be making stops all around the state.

Gansler will be in southern Maryland on Sept. 25. He then heads to western Maryland the day after that. He also will be campaigning on the Eastern Shore on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.

BALTIMORE (AP) - Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler says he isn't apologizing after a newspaper reported that he told campaign volunteers that his rival in the Democratic gubernatorial primary is relying on race to get elected.

Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown's campaign sought an apology after The Washington Post obtained a recording of Gansler telling campaign volunteers that Brown's "campaign slogan is 'Vote for me, I want to be the first African American governor of Maryland."'

But the Salisbury Daily Times reports a blog has floated the idea of Ireton joining another potential Democratic gubernatorial candidate State Attorney General Doug Gansler.

The paper reports that Ireton said that he has been getting some curious callers.

Air Conditioning Money for MD Schools

BALTIMORE (AP) - Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley's administration says $336 million in school construction funding and upgrades will be in the budget for the next fiscal year.


The governor made the announcement in Baltimore on Monday.


The budget will include $325 million for the state's Public School Construction Program. That will include $25 million for air conditioning in schools.
