NEW WINDSOR, Md. (AP) - The Carroll County Sheriff's Office says two men, including an inmate on work release, have been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a woman in New Windsor.

The department said in a news release that deputies were called to a home on Monday after some residents found blood in the basement. Authorities say two residents returned, but ran away when they learned law enforcement had been contacted. Police say the men were quickly apprehended.

Deputies found the body of 35-year-old Kandi Lynn Gerber, who also lived at the residence, on a nearby road. Authorities say she had been stabbed.

Thirty-eight-year-old Robert Bosley and 25-year-old Bret Wheeler were both charged with first-degree murder in Gerber's death.

Deputies say Bosley is a work-release inmate at the Carroll County Detention Center.
