Work Halted on Junction and Breakway Trail at Development Near Lewes

bicylespokesman.com

Work on the extension of the Junction and Breakwater Trail near Lewes has been halted because of an objection by local homeowners.

Residents in the Breakwater development have launched a legal challenge to the extension’s right-of-way.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that they claim that the Delaware Department of Transportation has not proven it has a proper easement over the land in the development to build the trail spur.

DelDOT has responded by saying that it has the authority to build a multi-use public way as intended through the subdivision.

Jeremy Eicher, one of the plaintiffs in the case, told the paper that surveyors and other workers who were on the property before the suit was filed have not been back.

The six-mile Junction and Breakwater Trail is a key element in Delaware’s plans for a non-automobile transportation network in Eastern Sussex County.
