Worcester Public Schools Ask for More Money From County

Worcester County Commissioners will get their first look at the local education budget during this week’s meeting.

The school board is asking for A $1.9 million increase in the County’s contribution for a total allocation of $73.5 million.

The Board of Education says that the 2.5 percent hike in funding was long overdue.

County Commissioner Judy Boggs said that the school system’s county appropriation has stayed the same in recent years while other departments have taken major cuts.

This year county departments have been asked to reduce their budgets by 10 percent.
