Witness in Murder Case Gunned Down in Latest Wilmington Violence

Violence has struck the city of Wilmington again.

This time it left three people dead in a wild shooting incident on Sunday night in the town’s Eden Park.

One of those killed was a witness in a four-year-old murder case against a former fugitive who, authorities say, is now charged with gunning him down.

The Wilmington News Journal learned of the connection from police and friends of Herman Curry who was a witness in the 2008 murder of his friend Christopher Palmer at an unlicensed Wilmington nightclub.

Capt. Nancy Dietz commander of the city police Criminal Investigation Division confirmed for the paper that was a motive authorities were exploring.

34-year old Otis Phillips was charged with killing Curry’s friend in 2008 but authorities were unable to locate him until Sunday following the shooting incident.
