Winterhur Museum and Library Gets Federal Funds for Heating and Cooling System

Winterhur Winter Museum Library, winterhur.org

WINTERTHUR, Del. (AP) - The Winterthur Museum and Library in Delaware has received a $350,000 federal grant to help install a new heating and cooling system.

The museum plans to match the National Endowment for the Humanities grant as it seeks to marry three systems now heating and cooling the museum, galleries and research buildings. The project will cost about $873,000 and be in place by 2014.

Winterthur Director David Roselle says each room will be equipped with a monitor that offers wireless tracking and adjustment of temperatures and humidity. The monitors will feed information to a program that managers will be able to access via a computer or smartphone.

The new system is expected to save the museum $200,000 or more a year in heating and cooling costs.
