The wife of a prominent Ocean Pines official was killed in a car crash on Route 50 just outside of Berlin.

Maryland State Police say 66-year old Donna Clarke died of injuries from the crash.

She was the wife of Marty Clarke who is vice president of the Ocean Pines Association Board of Directors.

When learning of her death he told the Salisbury Daily Times that, “She was the better part of me.”

Police say the accident occurred at around 8:30 a.m. when her Volvo that was traveling westbound on Route 346 came to an intersection with Route 50.

Authorities say that Clarke’s car was struck by a Mazda driven by 29-year old Lauren King when Clarke failed to yield the right of way.

Both drivers were taken by ambulance to Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.

King suffered non-life threatening injuries and eventually was taken to the Peninsula Regional Medical Center.
