The Wealthy Represented in Virginia Legislature

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - At least 16 Virginia state lawmakers have investments worth more than $1 million, according to a new analysis by a nonprofit that tracks money in politics.

The Virginia Public Access Project compiled recently filed personal finance forms of the 139 current members of the General Assembly.

Lawmakers do not have to provide the specific value of their stock holdings and investments, but instead provide broad ranges of worth. And the forms do not disclose the value of real estate holdings.

This means that there are possibly several more millionaires serving in the General Assembly.

Of the 16 lawmakers identified by VPAP, 13 are Republicans and 3 are Democrats.

Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe is a multi-millionaire, according to his personal financial disclosure form.
