DOVER, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police are urging shoppers to be cautious and vigilant during the start of the holiday shopping season after Thanksgiving.
Police say the holiday season is when thieves are frequently on the prowl. Police say the first line of defense is for shoppers to reduce their own vulnerability by parking in well-lit areas, shopping with friends and using credit or debit cards instead of large amounts of cash.
Police also warn against leaving purchases visible in parked cars. They say it's also a good idea to keep gifts hidden from view through windows at home.
State troopers will increase their visibility across Delaware with stepped up patrols in shopping centers and malls.
