Virginia GOP To Unveil Education Plans

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The Virginia House GOP plans to roll out their agenda on education-related issues.

Republican delegates have planned a news conference Tuesday to present their legislation related on education.

In a speech earlier this month, House GOP Speaker William J. Howell said he supports a "major amendment" to the Virginia Constitution aimed at promoting charter schools.

Republicans have long advocated for legislation that would provide greater funding and state support for charter schools, but have met resistance from Democratic lawmakers who worry those measures could hurt traditional public schools.

The Republican news conference is set to begin at 9 a.m.
