Vigil for Two Members of Dover Police Deptartment

creative commons

A vigil was held last night outside the Dover Police station for two of its members who were killed in a single vehicle accident.

Patrolman Robert DaFonte and Cadet James Watts died after the jeep that DaFante was driving swerved off the road, hit a utility pole and overturned.

Watts was thrown from the car.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that Deputy Chief Marvin Malley said that the agency would be there to help the families in their time of grief.

He noted, “Nothing prepares you for this.”

DaFonte’s mother, Karen, told the crowd that her son would always be a blessing and be alive in her.
