FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (AP) - The president of the University of Mary Washington says claims the school failed to act on sexual and violent cyberthreats are "irresponsible allegations."
President Richard V. Hurley responded in a lengthy statement Monday to a Title IX complaint filed one month ago by student members of Feminists United on Campus.
The group said members received hundreds of anonymous, profane messages and death threats for their public opposition to Greek life and in speaking out against an offensive chant by the rugby team. In a complaint filed with the U.S. Department of Education, the women said the state university in Fredericksburg failed to protect them from a "sexually hostile school environment."
While Mary Washington denied the allegations from the start, the Hurley's letter goes into much greater detail.
