Uproar Over Single-Family Rentals in Ocean City

ococean.gov

The Ocean City Planning and Zoning Commission held a standing room only hearing this week as they heard horror stories about  single-family rental homes.

The home at the center of the controversy was advertised as a property that sleeps 17 people even though the resort has a limit of no more than four unrelated people.

Phil Hurlock told the commission he lived across the street from one rental that he counted had 22 people in it.

Zoning Administrator Blaine Smith told the audience that the rule which has been in place since the 1970’s was a safeguard not only against overcrowding but to preserve the character of the neighborhood.

The Commission is reviewing the overall restrictions on single-family home rentals.
