Chemours website

It’s uncertain what the future will hold the Chemours plant in Edgemoor that will be shutdown leaving 200 hundreds without jobs.

State and county government officials expressed their hope that another employer would come along to take over the 115-acre site.

It was acquired by DuPont back in the 1930’s to produce titanium dioxide pigment.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that it was one of the few heavy industries left in the wake of the 1971 Coastal Zone Law which banned such plants.

The facility can use the Northfolk Southern railways along having with access to the state’s highway and natural location.

In addition, it sits along the river that has a major shipping channel.
