UMES Students Block Route 13 in Protest Over Baltimore Death

University of Maryland Eastern Shore

Route 13 in Princess Anne found students blocking traffic yesterday to protest the death of 25 year old Freddie Gray who died after suffering a severe spinal injury while in police custody.

According to the University the demonstration consisted of 75 to 100 students and began at the school before making its way to Route 13.

Traffic was halted for around 10 minutes before 20 to 30 officers arrived on the scene.

The university said that many of the students came from the Baltimore area.

The Salisbury Daily Times reports that the protest forced the cancelation of several events at Washington High School and Academy.

Tonight, students are expected to gather again on the university campus for a protest at 10 p.m.
