UD Baseball Coach Clinches 500th Win

official photo

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - University of Delaware baseball coach Jim Sherman is celebrating his 500th career victory as head coach at the school.

The school says in a statement that the baseball team's 5-4 win Sunday afternoon over North Carolina State gave Sherman the milestone victory. Sherman served as Delaware's associate head coach from 1995 to 2000 and took over the head coach job from Bob Hannah in 2001. Hannah is the only other coach of the Blue Hens to have 500 wins as a head coach.

Sherman is the 15th head coach in the history of University of Delaware baseball and only the third since 1956.

Sherman will have a chance to pick up more wins this week. The school plays a three game series against Towson on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
