WASHINGTON (AP) - The tourism bureau for the nation's capital says Washington set a record for overseas tourism in 2015, with more than 2 million foreign visitors.

Destination DC released the visitation data on Wednesday. The tourism bureau announced in May that the city also saw a record number of domestic visitors in 2015, with more than 19 million Americans traveling to Washington.

China was the country that sent the most tourists, with 300,000 visitors, up 36 percent from 2014. The United Kingdom was second with 201,000 tourists, followed by Germany, Australia and France.

The total of 2 million doesn't include visitors from Canada or Mexico because the Department of Commerce doesn't collect the same data at land borders.

Destination DC says the tourism industry supports 74,000 jobs in the District of Columbia.
