Tom Gordon: David Grimaldi Not a Whistleblower

A Sussex County Judge is expected to hear arguments to dismiss a wrongful termination lawsuit by former New Castle County Administrative Officer David Grimaldi against County Executive Tom Gordon.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that in the motion set for Friday Gordon says there is no merit to Grimaldi’s claim as a whistleblower.

Grimaldi is seeking $23-thousand in severance pay and other damages.

The News Journal reports that the key to Friday’s arguments will be whether Gordon had the right to fire Grimaldi.

The dispute between the two led to Grimaldi claiming that he has hundreds of recorded conversations on his cell phone.

Gordon has accused Grimaldi of trying to sabotage his reelection efforts.

Gordon fired Grimaldi days after a traffic stop in which he claims that Grimaldi tried to use his position to influence the outcome.

Grimaldi denies the charge and released a recording of him questioning the influence of the county’s risk assessment manager over Gordon.
