WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - New Castle County Executive Thomas Gordon is asking Delaware election officials to disqualify Matt Meyer, the Democratic nominee for county executive, from the general election ballot.
Meyer beat Gordon in September's primary, but Gordon claims Meyer hasn't lived in the county long enough to qualify.
Media outlets report that Gordon's personal attorney filed a complaint Tuesday with the Delaware Department of Elections, saying tax documents filed by Meyer prove he has not lived in the county the five consecutive years required to be executive. Meyer says he meets the requirement.
Meyer is set to face Republican Mark Blake in the Nov. 8 general election. Officials say if the complaint is successful, the county's Democratic Party would nominate a replacement candidate.
