Thunderstorms Down Trees in New Castle County (Update)

clip.art.esayvetors.com

Delmarva Power has only 375 customers left in New Castle County without service down from 15-hundred earlier this morning in the wake of thunderstorms that brought large hail and knocked down trees and power lines last night.

A total of more than 11-thousand were experienced outages Monday night in the Wilmington, Bellevue, Fox Point and Bellefonte areas.

The National Weather Service reported 3/4-inch hail fell in Bear and Newark on Monday night, with smaller sizes elsewhere in the county as well as in the Hollyville area of Sussex County.

The Wilmington News Journal reports that there were wind gusts of over 51 mph at the Roth Bridge over the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal.

DelDOT reported that fallen trees closed several roads but most have been reopened.

The weather service says a slow-moving cold front will bring strong thunderstorms to the region late this afternoon, with flooding and gusty winds likely.
